Proactive Plant Life Management for Safe Nuclear Energy
Abstract:
In recent couple of decades, much attention has been paid to optimizing the life cycle of operational nuclear power plants (NPPs). And many national projects are focusing on the technical and regulatory Issues for safe long term operation of NPPs beyond their Design Life for 30 or 40 years. In China, the oldest unit (Qinshan Unit 1) has only been on grid from 1991 and still inside the designed lifetime of 30 years. Thus we need to consider the plant life management not only for the operation stage, but also the design and construction stages to pursue proactive plant life management of NPPs. Surely there are many safety considerations of a NPP to achieve the goal of the long term safe, economic and reliable operation of the plant.
